Unique program in bioengineering
The School of Engineering and the School of Medicine created the Department of Bioengineering in 2002. It unites research and teaching to encompass both the use of biology as a new engineering paradigm and the application of engineering principles to medical problems and biological systems. Stanford is unique in that its medical and engineering schools are within walking distance of each other, providing a tremendous advantage to students and faculty and endless opportunities for collaboration.
