Planting for the second hundred years
On March 7th, Stanford Engineering will partner with the non-profit Magic, to plant oak seedlings in the “dish” area of campus. This project is part of Magic’s Planting for the Second Hundred Years initiative.
Since 1980, Magic has been working in partnership with the University's biology faculty and planning staff to regenerate oak populations on the foothills which rise to the southwest of the central campus. Since 1992, they have also worked in areas nearer the center of campus. Over nearly thirty years, fifteen thousand volunteers have established two thousand healthy young oaks and tens of thousands of other native plants.
Following the project, Professor David Freyberg will join us for a discussion of Stanford’s research on water conservation and environmental sustainability.
This project is suitable for all ages, including families. You’ll have an opportunity to plant a tree that you and your family and friends can watch grow as you walk the dish in future years. Please join us, make a difference in your community, and learn first hand how Stanford Engineering research is not only changing our community, but the world at large.
This project is located at the "Dish" area which is approximately one mile up hill from the entrance to the "Dish." Those of you who enjoy the exercising along the dish trails know how enjoyable this walk can be. For those of you who will be experiencing this area for the first time, wear steady shoes and bring your sense of adventure.
THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT. We regret we cannot accept walk-ins.
